Ashanti Regional Fire Service has expressed worry on how most people in the region resort to quenching fire by themselves when there is an outbreak.
According to the command, that has contributed to the major fire incidents in the region.
This came in the wake of a fire that raged the secondhand clothing section at the Kumasi Central Market destroying properties worth thousands of cedis.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Joshua Nguah, said people should learn to report fire cases early and stop underrating it.
“When the fire starts, do not start fighting it until it gets out of hands before you call us. You realized, when we came, the magnitude of the fire was very high and these are things we keep advising,” he uttered bitterly.
ACFO Nguah revealed, the challenge they face quenching the fire was as a result of wind and its ability to drive the fire to other parts.
“The challenge was that there was a strong wind coming from the left direction making it difficult to be put off,” he added.
Fire razed down secondhand section clothing section at the Kumasi Central Market at about 10 PM Friday, April 19, 2019.
More than five fire tenders were at the scene to quench the fire, but, the rate at which the fire burnt left them fighting it for more than 2 hours.
