The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Director of Education, Madam Gertrude Mensah, has cautioned teachers against the use of cellular phones in the classroom.
It was a distraction to effective teaching and must be avoided to prevent the Ghana Education Service (GES) from sanctioning offenders.
She said they should make sure that the instructional hours were properly managed.
Madam Mensah said this in an address read for her at the opening of a week long workshop on the Teacher Community Assistance Initiative (TCAI) programme at Akyawkrom near Ejisu.
It brought together 150 teachers and head teachers from 30 selected primary schools in 12 districts in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Region.
TCAI is an intervention by the GES to equip teachers with skills to better assist pupils with low learning ability at the lower primary level of education. Madam Mensah reminded them to be punctual and regular to school.
The head teachers should also do more to strengthen supervision in the schools to promote discipline.
Mr. Albert Nyaaba Akuoubila, the Regional Coordinator of the TCAI programme for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo, said the goal was to help address the learning needs of weak pupils in numeracy and literacy through remedial classes.
The programme is being piloted in 500 selected schools in 42 districts nationwide.
