Sunyani, Aug 7, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Students Union (BASU) on Monday expressed concern about the rising rate of chieftaincy disputes in the region.
It therefore called on feuding factions to bury their differences to allow for peaceful settlement of such disputes. In a statement signed by Mr Anane Agyei, the National President, the union entreated, "all persons involved in chieftaincy disputes to soften their stance to allow peaceful settlement of such disputes". The statement appealed to citizens to attach importance to all issues relating to education to promote the region's sustainable development.
It condemned all forms of indiscipline among the youth including truancy, drug abuse, improper dressing, sexual immorality, armed robbery, laziness, blatant disregard for state property and authorities, among others.
"We have observed with grave concern the rising trend at which the youth are getting mad, which can be attributed partly to the use of illicit drugs."
It called on parents, guardians and teachers to be committed to ensuring the proper upbringing of their children.
The union appealed to individuals and organisations to support its secretariat with logistics to enable it to discharge its duties effectively and efficiently.
