Kumasi, Feb 11, GNA - Students of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) on Thursday took to the streets of Kumasi to demonstrate against Mr John Mensah Eshun, Principal of the Institute.

The students accused the Principal of conniving with the Ashanti Schools and Colleges Sports Federation to ban KTI from participating in the inter-schools and colleges sports billed for Monday, February 14. The Federation banned KTI last year for assaulting the referee who was officiating in their match against Obuasi Secondary/Technical School during the Milo football competition held at the Bekwai SDA Secondary School.

Kumasi Anglican and Osei Kyeretwie Secondary Schools were also banned alongside KTI for indiscipline.

The KTI students claimed that whereas the headmasters of Anglican and Osei Kyeretwie had lobbied for their schools to be pardoned their Principal had done nothing for the school to be pardoned. The Principal had travelled and could therefore not be reached for his comments on the students allegation but Mr Twumasi Amponsah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education who together with the police managed to bring the situation under control, denied that the ban on the other two schools had been lifted.

The students returned to classes after calm was restored and are going about their studies.
