Senior High School (SHS) students in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region will from the 2017/2018 academic year benefit from free exercise books distribution under the auspices of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
The lawmaker who is also the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Paul Essien has pledged to ensure that this initiative is not a mirage and will help in improving the standard of education in the area.
At a thanksgiving service for his ministerial appointment organized at Tikobo No.1 in the Jomoro District, Hon Paul Essien who is a native of the town and former assembly member of ‘Tikobo Number One’ assured parents in the District that President Nana Addo is very committed to kick start the free SHS policy this academic year in September.
He said this free SHS policy is a meritorious and it will help parents especially the less privilege ones to save money to live better.
Hon Paul Essien used the occasion to express his gratitude to God for given him life and protection throughout his endeavour and thanked President Nana Addo for giving him a great opportunity to serve the country especially as Deputy Religious and Chieftaincy Minister.
While reaffirming his commitment to provide jobs for the unemployed youths in the Jomoro District, he called for collaboration from all stakeholders to move the developmental agenda of the area forward.
He said “Within my four years as an MP, I’m going to give awards to deserving and hardworking teachers, farmers, nurses and security men in the Jomoro District. My free remedial classes for secondary schools students has started and I urge everybody to visit my office for registration”,
The Deputy Minister acknowledged the immense support of the Chiefs, the entire Nzema people, the NPP Acting western Regional Chairman Mr Francis Ndede Siah, Assembly Members, the NPP constituency executives in the three Nzema constituencies namely; Jomoro, Ellembelle and Evalue Ajomoro Gwira for the feet achieved.
