Students in higher institutions told to be of good conduct during December

elections

Winneba (C/R), April 10, GNA- The Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Saturday advised the youth especially those in the higher institutions to conduct themselves in a manner that devoid of intimidation and rancour in the December elections.

To this end, Alhaji Mahama urged the youth to make it a cardinal duty to always behave in a way that would bring honour and dignity in their various communities.

This was contained in an address read for him by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Captain Steven Kwamena Armah (Rtd) at the 39th annual National Congress of the National Union of Presbyterian Students of Ghana (NUPSG) at Winneba on Saturday. The theme for the congress was: "Come and let us walk in the light of God".

Alhaji Mahama said: "Those of us in government will do our best to always make the fear and love of the Lord influence us in everything that we do in our nation building."

The Vice President advised the congress to come out with new and pragmatic suggestions that would help accelerate the socio-economic, cultural and spiritual advancement of the country.

In their contributions, the Most Reverend Dr. Sam Prempeh, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Addo Obeng Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and Rev. Mrs Alice Kyei Anti, National chairperson of the Church, appealed to politicians not to misuse the youth especially those at the tertiary institutions to achieve their political ends by influencing them with money and in kind. They were of the view that extending active political activities to the campus of the tertiary institutions would disturb their studies, breed seed of discord and also cause confusion among students.

The National President of NUGS, Mr. Agyei Sovlo urged members of the Union to be humble, respect the view of others and be ready to effect changes in their lives. There were fraternal messages from other churches and organisations.
