Mr Antwi- Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has advised students to be humble, and consciously determined to study hard, to take full advantage of the country’s educational resources.
He explained that by so doing, they could come out of school, well equipped in their chosen careers, to be able to compete effectively with other graduates from any part of the world.
Mr Antwi-Boasiako appealed to teachers to give of their best to their students, and together improve upon the standards of education in the country.
He was speaking at the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Demonstration School, under the theme: ‘’40 Years of SDA College Demonstration Basic Schools, The Successes, Challenges and the Way Forward,’’ at Asokore near Koforidua.
He encouraged parents to continue to invest in the education of their children, adding that, it is the greatest asset that they can leave for their children.
Dr Bernice Adiku Heloo, Deputy Minister of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, said ICT helps to improve and enhance one's capacity in today’s world, but cautioned against negative activities associated with it, if not properly used.
She donated 20 computers to the school, indicating that it is part of government’s Better Ghana Agenda policy, and urged the school authorities to make good use of the equipment.
Professor John Jacob Nortey, President of Data Link College, urged all stakeholders in the educational system to ensure that the knowledge imparted to the younger generation, developed their self-confidence, in order to come out with new ideas, and not influenced by others.
He called for the education of the youth of the country within the culture and values of Ghana, to make them come out as Ghanaians in their thinking and lifestyles.
He appealed to all stakeholders to help the school to construct an ICT centre, staff common room for teachers, and a library for the pupils.
Mrs Nora T. Agboka, Founder of the SDA Demonstration School, said she was delighted to see the school grow from strength to strength, adding that the aim for establishing the school, to provide quality Service to God and mankind, has been achieved.
She said, it is her hope that the school would train more people to serve Ghana.
Mr Ofori Quaye, Headmaster of the School, said it started with 34 pupils, a teacher and an attendant, but can the school can boast of 1,367 pupils from kindergarten to Junior High School (JHS), with 41 teachers.
He said, at the 2013/14 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), all the 82 candidates presented by the school passed, and are furthering their education at various second cycle schools across the country.
