The District Chief Executive, Mr Michael Mensah, who made the call on Thursday at Suhum, expressed concern that many positive aspects of the nation's cultural heritage were been discarded in preference for negative foreign cultures thereby affecting the image of the nation. He, therefore, urged the committee to re-organise and promote cultural activities including shows and quiz competitions for schools and groups in the district.

The Eastern Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, Mr Isaac P.K. Ankamah, said Cultural Villages would be established in the districts under a five-year cultural development plan. According to him, the Villages would collaborate efforts of the district assemblies, traditional authorities, artistic groups and individuals to unearth the cultural heritage of the for people for entertainment and tourism promotion.

The 15-member committee under the chairmanship of Nana Kwame Ayerah, Abontendomhene of Suhum also drew membership from various sectors of the society in the district.
