The National Executives of the Zongo Caucus, a Muslim group under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is calling on Government to adequately resource the Zongo Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Development (ZEED) module to aid development in Zongo communities across the country.

According to the National Co-ordinator of the group, Alhaji Yussif Captain, ZEED is an effective initiative under the Ghana Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) that can be utilized as a common platform to fight poverty in the Zongo communities.

Alhaji Captain, who made the call at the 2nd National Executive meeting of the group over the weekend at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, noted that ZEED has provided a number of skills training and resources to over a 1,000 youth to help them to better their living conditions.

The meeting was to discuss and find solutions to some issues affecting the socio-economic development and spiritual needs of the Zongo communities in the country.

He noted that ZEED was living to its objective of creating jobs in the Zongo communities, since beneficiaries enrolled under the module have acquired skills which will empower them to be independent and help reduce the idleness of the youth in such communities.

“All can attest to the fact that, with the introduction of the ZEED module, a lot of jobs are being created for the youth across their various Zongo communities, in which it currently operates, to empower them to be self-employed and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” he said.

Alhaji Captain commended the government on its good governance, and reminded the government of commitments made towards the Zongo communities by committing more financial, human and material resources into ZEED to sustain the module.

“We are crying for more support for the ZEED module to aid in developing the youth and the community as a whole. We need this aid to help us form a formidable front to fight our common enemy which is poverty and development,” he emphasized.

The National Co-ordinator also used the occasion to endorse the nomination of the Honourable Alhaji Tanko as the interim Chairman for the Hajj Committee.

He, however, urged Alhaji Tanko to open his doors for negotiations to identify areas of cooperation in order to have a smooth and peaceful Hajj this year.
