Kumasi, March 3, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, on Sunday asked the youth to support self-help projects initiated in their communities.
He also called on district assemblies to sufficiently support communities that initiate projects to encourage others to follow. In a speech read for him at a durbar and fund-raising of the chiefs and people of Bohyen in the Kumasi metropolis, Mr Boafo said this would reduce the cost of projects on the communities and encourage communal spirit among the communities.
The Regional Minister said it was the concern of the government to have a credible voters' register that could stand the test of time. Mr Boafo therefore called on eligible Ghanaians to get actively involved in the exercise and asked supporters of the various political parties to tolerate the views of their opponents and refrain from intimidation during the campaign.
Mr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport, said the government was doing everything possible to develop the road network in the country alongside other development projects. He said the new buses ordered by the government to augment the Metro Mass Transport system would soon arrive from Italy and other donor countries to support the urban transport system. On the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr Anane, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, said it was the best health care delivery system, which would cater for everybody and asked the people to embrace it.
Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the Assembly (KMA) was determined to keep the city clean and called for co-operation of all.
Mrs Dina Osei Asibey Frimpong, the Bantama sub-metro electoral officer, said the Bohyen electoral area, which had 19 polling stations, would have four additional polling stations created to bring the number there to 23.
Nana Antwi Boasiako, chief of Bohyen, said the durbar and fund raising activity was to complement government efforts of providing social amenities to the people.
He announced that Bohyen citizens living abroad had contributed about 420 pounds sterling towards the construction of a library for the community and support education generally at Bohyen.
