Bawku (U/E), April 3, GNA - A Circuit Court at Bawku in the Upper East Region, on Wednesday sentenced a 40-year-old mason to four years imprisonment for stealing, attempting to escape from lawful custody and damaging government property. Pual Kaba pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Paul Eklo, told the court presided over by Mr. Nathaniel K.E. Osam, that on March 8, Kaba was arrested at Kubore, near Zebilla in the Bawku West District for allegedly stealing a packet of roofing sheets and a bicycle, valued at 1.3 million cedis belonging to one Solomon Tetteh at Kubore. ASP Eklo said Kaba was handed over to the Zebilla police and upon interrogation admitted that he committed the offence and was placed in police custody.

The prosecutor said between the 2230 hours and 2300 hours, Kaba created an opening in a burglar-prove gate at the cells and came out. The accused took away a mobile phone that valued at 1.3 million cedis from Sergeant Owusu Sekyere who was at the counter dosing and Kaba bolted to Bawku. ASP Eklo said Kaba was re-arrested the following day from his hideout with the mobile phone.
