Suspected coronavirus case in Keta Municipality tests negative - MCE

The result of a suspected case of coronavirus which has been reported in the Keta Municipal Assembly of the Volta Region has come out negative after a test was conducted on blood samples of the patient.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Hon. Godwin Effah in a radio broadcast today, April 6 announced the result of the test which brings a sigh of relief to the people in the Keta Municipality.

The MCE also revealed that the fishermen who brought the man suspected of carrying the deadly coronavirus will also be released from quarantine.

BACKGROUND

Last week, April 2, a suspected case of COVID-19 has been recorded in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region. The suspect, a 41 years old sailor is said to have been at sea for over 30 days in a fishing vessel.

The man was immediately quarantined at the Keta Municipal Hospital’s holding facility where his temperature was taken and his blood sample subsequently taken for testing in Accra.

Fishermen who brought the man into town from the sea narrated that they went fishing at the dawn of April 2 and saw the fishing vessel at sea.

According to them, the men in the fishing vessel who are all believed to be Chinese pleaded with them [fishermen] to take the suspect together with some quantity of fish to the shore and upon reaching the shore, they should sell the fish and give the money to the suspect so he can go to his hometown.
