Agona Swedru, Oct 31, GNA- The Acting District Director of Health Services for Agona, Ms Angila Borton, has appealed to the government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to assist Swedru government hospital to acquire an ambulance.

She said lack of an ambulance has made it impossible to refer emergency cases to hospitals in Accra and Winneba. Ms Borton made the appeal when a team of soldiers from Ghana Armed Forces Staff College in Accra met heads of decentralized departments in the district.

She said beds at the theatre are so dilapidated that doctors find it difficult to use them during operation. ''One theatre bed is sold at 18 million cedis and the hospital cannot afford it.'' Mr Kofi Ewusi, Assistant Coordinating Director, said the Agona District Assembly is doing everything possible to improve structures at the hospital.

Leader of the soldiers, Wing Commander N.F.K. Dokoto, said problems raised during the interaction would be sent to appropriate quarters for solutions.
