The Swedru School of Business has appealed to the government to help provide adequate accommodation to the school for increasing number of students posted there.
Mr Samuel Afrifa Appiagyei, the Headmaster, made the appeal at the 55th Speech and Prize Giving Day of the school at Agona Swedru.
He said the student population of 2,550 had created congestion, compelling authorities to convert 12 classrooms to dormitories to accommodate the large number of boys posted to the school annually.
He said this had forced some parents to rent private accommodation for their children
The Headmaster said only seven of the 112 teachers and 73 non-teaching staff stay on campus and this makes monitoring of students difficult.
Mr Appiagyei said the School had no dining and assembly halls, compelling students to assemble under trees.
He commended the government and Agona West Municipal Assembly for the provision of infrastructure for the school but called for improvement, adding that some of the projects started since in 1999 were at standstill.
Some of them are the Home Economics block and two-story building GETFUND boys’ dormitory started in 2011.
The Headmaster therefore appealed to the government to release funds to contractors working on those projects to complete them to facilitate quality academic work.
Mr Robert Mensah, Agona West District Director of Education said the Ghana Education Service (GES) was doing everything possible to improve education standard in the area.
