T’di Railway Headquarters to be pulled down

Fri, 3 Oct 2014 Source: GNA

The once vibrant headquarters of the Ghana Railway Corporation is to be pulled down by October 15, this year, as part of the Railway Redevelopment Project.

Other buildings, including government-owned ones, have also been earmarked for the demolition exercise.

The inscription for demolition clearly points to City Authorities instruction, but Mr. John Laste, Public Relations Officer of the STMA said they were acting on the instruction of the contractor of the project.

He said the assembly was collaborating with the contractor and the consultant to ensure that the exercise was properly carried out. ”

Meanwhile, occupants of these facilities are completely at sea, as no prior notice has been given to them.

Despite the explicit announcement by the Ministry of Local Government to MMDCEs not to take any demolition exercise without approval from the Ministry, Assemblies continue to engage in this heart-breaking and distressful exercise, sometimes at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian.
