TESCON embarks on election campaign in Bongo

Bongo (U/E), June 15, GNA - Members of the Tertiary Students Confederation of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region began a series of campaign activities on Thursday to support the election bid of Mr Andrews Awuni, the Party's Parliamentary Candidate for the area. Activities of the month-long campaign include clean up exercises, rallies, video shows and two million cedis worth of donations for three health institutions.

The Constituency TESCON Co-ordinator, Mr Maxwell Nsoh, presenting assorted food items to the Bongo Hospital after a clean up exercise there, said the aim was to strengthen the election prospects of Mr Awuni because of his commitment to the area's development. "Not only that, we also see the exercise as part of our moral responsibility to contribute to the development of our communities by way of giving back to them what they had given us in education", he said.

He said Mr Awuni, a Deputy Minister of Information, has been very helpful to most of them anytime they were in need, adding "this has motivated us to support his election bid while we are on holidays so that he can win to enable the NPP to accomplish its development plans for the District.

Mr Nsoh commended health workers in the area for their commitment to duty, saying that as students of tertiary institutions they would continue to support programmes and policies designed to make health care more accessible to the poor.

The Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Clement Apikiya lauded the students for embarking on the exercise, reminding them that as the cream of the society, they were on the right path to set the pace for others to follow.

He urged citizens of the area living abroad to come home regularly not only to contribute to nation building, but also to encourage those at home to give of their best.

Mr Apikiya said the Assembly would continue to look for partners, who were committed to lifting the people out of poverty and urged the students to enlighten the people on the good works of the Government. The Acting Matron of the Bongo Hospital, Madam Rebecca Anamolga appealed to other benevolent individuals and groups to copy the gesture. The students, drawn from the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Education, Winneba, would organize campaign rallies at Bongo-Kuyellingo, Atampisi, Soe-Yindongo, Soe-Boko, Feo Abagabono and Asekere.
