The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has rebranded its Security Department with the consolidation of its watchmen, taskforce and city guards into one force.

A Hundred personnel of the new Security Department passed out on Friday after going through two weeks of rigorous police training at the Ghana Police Training College in Accra.

The personnel, made up of 88 males and 12 females, received training in change management, TMA bye-laws, report writing, surveillance and intelligence, stress management, first aid and drill among others.

The rebranding has led to the change in uniform of the three departments and the personnel given ranks and clothed in black uniforms with boots and beret to match, similar to the uniform of the Ghana Police Service.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the consolidation and restructure of the Assembly’s security was to ensure efficiency and professionalism in service delivery.

Mr Odamtten stated that “the Assembly will now have a consolidated Metro Security Unit with sub units such as Traffic Management, Guard Duties, Revenue Collection, Development Control and Rapid Response Section”.

He added that, as part of the rebranding ambition, it became necessary for the Assembly to train the 100 security personnel to augment the growing challenges associated with population growth and the expanding settlements within the Metropolis.

He said the training has equipped them to deliver their new roles to maintain security, law and order, assist in prosecution, ensure public safety and comfort, assist in revenue mobilization and development control.

The MCE advised them to refrain from practices such as extorting money from traders, taxi and trotro drivers, insubordination to authorities, late attendance to work and indiscipline.

Commodore Steve Darbo, Former Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Base, who was the Reviewing Officer, commended the Assembly for enrolling the personnel in the training.

Commodore Darbo congratulated the personnel and urged them to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Awards were presented to five of the personnel for emerging the best in various fields of training.
