Take interest in community initiated projects -Minister

Senfi (Ash), March 30, GNA-Mr Kofi Poku Adusei, Deputy Minister for Local Government and rural Development, has called on the citizenry residing outside their hometowns not to turn deaf ears to the call to come home and help in the development of their communities.

He emphasised that it was about time they visited home and supported the rural folks in the development of their communities. The Deputy Minister was speaking at an Easter fund raising harvest and launching of a two-year development plan of the town at Senfi in the Amansie East district last Sunday.

Mr Adusei expressed concern about the low turn out of people at the meeting and stressed the need for the people to talk to their relatives living outside to come home and contribute their quota to raise the image of the town.

He commended the unit committee and the assembly member for their vision of planning to raise over 800 million cedis to uplift the image of the community.

Mr Joseph Nkrumah-Boateng, chairman of the unit committee, said the two-year development plan involved the rehabilitation of a local council office, which is to be turned into a health post and the renovation of a community centre.

Other projects under the plan include the launching of an education fund in August to raise money to support brilliant but needy pupils in the area and extension of electricity to other parts of the town, he said.

Mr. Nkrumah-Boateng said a levy of 200,000 cedis a male and 150,000 cedis per female for non-residents and 100,000 cedis a male and 60,000 cedis per female residents have been instituted to support the development plan.

Mrs Agatha Boateng, assembly member for Senfi, urged the youth in the area not to sit on the fence and expect others to come and develop the area for them.

She called on the Deputy Minister and the assembly to help rehabilitate the three-kilometre road from Adjamesu to Senfi which is almost inaccessible.
