Takoradi-based NGO trains 220 youth in Techiman

Techiman (B/A), July 24 GNA - About 220 youth from communities in the Techiman municipality are under-going a one-month skill training in batik tie-and-dye, printing, mushroom farming, photography, soap-making and pomade processing to enhance their lifestyles

The Skill Trainers Association, an NGO based in Takoradi with the concern of assisting the unemployed youth in the country to acquire the necessary skills to enable them to initiate income-generating activities to enhance their future, organized the programme. Mr Prince Kwofie, the leader of the Association told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman that, they have so far trained a number of people in the Eastern and Western regions.

Mr Kwofie said in Brong-Ahafo Region the Association had already organised similar training course for over 100 people from the Wenchi District and promised to move on to Nkoranza after the Techiman course. He said, for qualification for the training course, each applicant pays a registration fee of 10,000 cedis in addition to purchasing needed materials for one's vocation.

The Association advertises through the churches, assembly members, unit committees, traditional rulers and leaders of organised groups and associations, he said.

Mr Kwofie complained that the 16-member Skill Trainers Association face financial problems and called on the Government, NGOs, religious bodies and spirited individuals to come to its aid to enable it render services to the unemployed youth to support the Government's effort to improve unemployment situation in the country. 24 July, 05
