Talensi-Nabdam Assembly elects first Presiding Member

Tongo (UER), Sept. 15, GNA - The newly created Talensi-Nabdam District Assemby, in the Upper East Region, has elected Mr Bernard Benanzi, a social worker, as its first Presiding Member. Mr Benanzi polled 24 votes to defeat Mr E.K. Daaran, an educationist who recorded six votes.

The new Presiding Member thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and appealed for their cooperation to help build a firm foundation for the District.

He urged the Assembly members to live above parochial interests and rather concentrate on the development agenda.

"We would have to focus our attention on education, health and economic development... and let the welfare of the people be our priority."

Mr Mahami Salifu, the Regional Minister, commended the District Assembly for forging unity and focusing on progress.

Talensi-Nabdam Assembly holds maiden meeting

Tongo (UER), Sept. 17, GNA - Mr Mahami Salifu, Upper East Regional Minister, has called on the chiefs and opinion leaders of the newly created Talensi-Nabdam District to ensure the rapid development of the District.

Mr Salifu was addressing the maiden meeting of the District Assembly, at Tongo, the District capital. He advised the members to focus on revenue generation to help in the initiation of self- sponsored development projects.

Mr Salifu said the Assembly should also ensure that lands acquired by the Government were documented to avoid future litigations. Mr Bernard Benanzi, a social worker was elected as the Assembly's first Presiding Member.
