Tamale, Sept. 23, GNA- Alhaji Abubakari Sumani, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, at the weekend toured some communities within the constituency to brief the people on the agenda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) towards the 2008 Election.

The purpose was also to sympathize with flood victims in the area, access the extent of damage to properties and to find ways of assisting those affected persons to alleviate their plight.

Communities he visited included Kulnyavilla, Shishegu, Kasalgu, Taha, Gbalahi and Kogni Gbanyamli, Kanvilli, Zagyuri and Josonayili, all in the Tamale Metropolis.

Alhaji Sumani addressing the constituents at separate functions, consoled the flood victims and assured them that he would use part of the MP's share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to resettle the most affected persons.

He called on government, non-governmental organisations, individuals and corporate bodies to assist victims with more aid and to settle displaced persons.

Alhaji Sumani said, "The NDC shares your pain and plight. An NDC government would have a permanent contingency fund, which would take care of natural disasters such as these to lessen your suffering." He commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government for assisting displaced persons during the Tamale rainstorm disaster last April. Alhaji Abubakari Sumani said "The assistance was not enough but it showed their commitment," and appealed to government to release enough funds towards assisting the displaced people.

He appealed to the constituents to continue to vote massively for the NDC in the 2008 Election to ensure that the party recapture power to ensure good governance.

Alhaji Sumani said the party had gained a lot of experience in opposition and would use that to solve problems confronting poor people to salvage the people from untold hardships. He called for unity among the rank and file of the party to enable it to win power in 2008 easily.

Alhaji Sumani said Ghanaians had lost fate in the NPP and asked members of the NDC to work hard to win more members to ensure massive victory for the party. 23 Sept 07
