Tamale - youth at ward-k- demand provision of social amenities

A Group of Hundred Demonstrators who are mainly youth in their Twenties to thirties from the Ward-k suburb, under the Sangnarigu District, in the Tamale North Constituency in the Northern Regional Capital, embarked on a peaceful demonstration to register their disquiet about the inability of the government to provide them with basic social amenities which they claimed their political leaderships and the government have reneged on their side of social Contract after having overwhelmingly endorsed them during their political bids.

The youth Leader of the aggrieved group Dr. Abdul- Rauf Ibrahim, Presenting the six (6) page petition at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) onwards to be delivered to His Excellency president John Dramani Mahama, sounded cautioned that if their demands are not been met, they would not participate in the up- coming unit assembly and the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Among other Pressing demands they catalogued are as follows, Lack of good access roads, Poor Drainage System, The Lack of proper functioning of Street Lighting system which poses a security threats in the neighbourhood.

Dr. Rauf further entreated the political authorities in the Region and the government, as a matter of urgency to tackle their grievances head-on otherwise face their wrath in any organized elections.

Amidst drumming and dancing in Dagbani songs in their processions while some of them holding Nim tree branches and others holding placards with Inscriptions which reads as, Our Roads our concern, Ward-k Deserve Better, No Roads No Vote, Running of Water is Killing us and the rest are as follows, We have no Drainage system, and the last but not the least is the No street light No Security.

Receiving the petition on behalf Northern Regional Minister, who was apparently out of town for other engagement in Accra, The Northern Regional Security Liaison Officer Mr. Ruben Teteh kachekpor, assured the disenchanted youth that their petition would be delivered to the appropriate quarterses for redressed.

He gave them thump up for the peaceful manner they carried themselves during their demonstration.
