Tano South Assembly raises more than 300 million cedis

Bechem (B/A), Sep. 7, GNA - As of June this year, the Tano South District Assembly in Brong-Ahafo mobilised 321.6 million cedis, representing 34.78 percent of its projected revenue for the year, according to the District Chief Executive Mr Osei Sekyere Bota. Addressing the second general meeting of the assembly at Bechem on Friday,

Mr Bota said the assembly projected to raise a total of 8.1 billion cedis including seven billion cedis from the district assemblies' common fund and 224 million cedis from the MPs' share of the common fund. A total of 925 million cedis was projected to be generated from the Assembly's traditional revenue sources.

Mr Bota announced that the government had instituted a micro-finance and small loans scheme centre to administer give out credit to entrepreneurs in the district and that modalities for its implementation were being worked out.

He said the Assembly was constructing a block of six classrooms each for Bronsakro and Bechem Anglican primary schools costing 750 million cedis and 700 million cedis respectively, adding that it was also putting up a maternity block for the Bechem Government Hospital estimated at 414 million cedis.

The Assembly has completed renovation works on blocks of four classrooms at Breme and Techimantia at the cost of 270 million cedis. It also intends to construct a police station and a barracks estimated at 1.4 billion cedis.

The DCE said the Assembly was sourcing funds from the GETFUND to rehabilitate some dilapidated school buildings and health centres in the district.

He said the Assembly had plans to tar Bechem roads and also construct Techimantia-Derma and New Brosankro-Old Brosankro roads. He commended Mr Andrews Adjei-Yeboah, MP for Tano South, for supporting the Assembly in development projects.
