The Tanoso Town Council in the Techiman district is to spend more than ?20 million on development projects this year.

Mr Kofi Nimoh, Treasurer of the Council, announced this while presenting its annual budget at its first ordinary meeting at Tanoso.

He said ?9.6 million would be spent on the construction of a footbridge over Tano River for pedestrians and school children at Tanoso.

Other projects included ?3 million for streetlights, ?4.4 million on renovation of day-care centres at Tanoso and New Techiman, ?2.5 million for renovation of Tanoso Local Authority Primary School and Imam Seidu Local Authority Primary School at Tanoso while ?1.5 million would go into scholarships for two students in the area.

He said the Council intended to collect ?36 million in revenue and called on the unit committees and traditional rulers to help in the collection of basic rates.

Mr Nimoh said the Council collected ?12 million out of its budgeted revenue of 23 million cedis and attributed the low revenue generation to the deplorable nature of the Asutai-Mpehia feeder road.

He appealed to the Techiman District Assembly and the Department of Feeder Roads to re-gravel the roads to enable the Council to derive revenue for development projects.

Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Obeng, Chairman of the Council, urged traditional rulers to mobilize the youth to complete development projects to improve the socio-economic life of the people.

They later elected Messrs Francis Acquah and Kwasi Amoateng as Chairman of the Social Services and Development and Finance and Administration Committees, respectively.
