Tanyigbe community appeal for resumption of work on road

Tanyigbe Atidzie (V/R), Aug. 3, GNA - The chiefs and people of Tanyigbe Atidzie in the Ho Municipality have appealed to the government to either prompt the contractor working on the Tanyigbe Kpodzi-Atidzie road to resume work or re-award it to another contractor.

This is because "if work does not resume immediately, we will be cut from the rest of the area".

Mr. Amorin Kottoh, an opinion leader of the town, made the appeal on behalf of the chiefs and people in a chat with journalists during a Speech and Prize giving day of the Atidzie Roman Catholic Basic schools.

He said the 2.7-kilometer road was first awarded to Jimmaco Company in 2001 but the work was abandoned after three and half years and was re-awarded to Messrs Dama Construction Company.

Mr. Kottoh said for six and half years now Messrs Dama did not do any serious work on the road.

He said the hilly and narrow nature of the road coupled with the dumping of gravel on one side of the already bad road had made it un-motorable.

Mr. Kottoh said most drivers had stopped plying the road due, thus prolonging the five minutes journey to 30 minutes.

Mr. Kottoh said the situation had made it difficult for the predominantly farming community to cart their food crops to the marketing centres.

He appealed to the government to re-award the road to another contractor before the rains set in.
