Some residents of Tarkwa faced-off with Police Wednesday night as they demanded the release of persons arrested in connection with yesterday’s demonstration.
The angry residents blocked the main Takoradi-Tarkwa road, burnt car tyres and played football on an entire busy stretch of road throughout the whole day, resulting in many passengers being stranded.
The Police, according to reports, fired several rounds of warning shots as they tried to disperse the crowd which was becoming violent.
No casualties were recorded.
This is the second protest in seven months by the residents over the terrible nature of their roads with many residents suffering from respiratory diseases due to dusty roads.
