Teacher honoured for devotion to duty.

Daboase (W/R), Nov.30, GNA- Mr. John Paul Mwefaa, a teacher at the Kawanopaado Kindergarten and Primary schools was on Wednesday given a special recognition for his meritorious service to the community.

Mr Mwefaa was recognised for teaching the two schools single-handedly for the past eleven years.

Mrs Rebecca Dadzie, Western Regional Director of Education and Mr. John Yaw Obeng, a druggist presented 500,000 cedis cash and a bicycle respectively to Mr. Mwefaa.

The bicycle would ease the burden of the teacher who travels a total distance of 18 kilometres every day to and from school on foot. In addition, Mr Mwefaa was promised a 21-inch television set by Mr. Edward Tawiah Amprofi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) during the Mpohor Wassa East District best teacher awards ceremony at Daboase. He told the Ghana News Agency that many years

of promise to send teachers to help him was fulfilled a couple of weeks ago when two teachers trained under the Youth Employment Programme were posted to the school. Mr. Mwefaa expressed his gratitude to the DCE and other donors and said it would encourage him to work harder to make the school one of the best in the district. He appealed for support to upgrade facilities at the school, which he said, was growing steadily.

In all 33 teachers in different categories were presented with awards including refrigerators, television sets, blenders, gas cookers, cash and certificates.
