Teachers honoured at Independence parade at Apam

Apam (C/R), Mar 7, GNA - The Gomoa District Assembly and the District Directorate of Education have presented 31 teachers, the first batch sponsored by the Assembly in training colleges with radio cassette recorders, gas cylinders, cooking utensils and gas stoves to welcome them back and to motivate them to work hard.

Speaking at the presentation, which was the side attraction of the 47th Independence anniversary parade at Apam, Miss Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive, urged teachers to be worthy ambassadors of the Assembly in their communities.

She urged them not only to work hard to help raise the standard of education in the area but should also explain the Assembly's policies and programmes to the people.

Three schools, Mozano District Assembly JSS, Obokrom D/A JSS and Akropong No. 1 D/A JSS, which scored 100 per cent in the 2003 BECE and the winners of the Independence Anniversary Quiz, Victoria Amoah of Potsin D/A JSS, Issah Donkoh of Pomadze-Asebu JSS and Belinda Kakra Eshun of Akwamu D/A JSS were also presented with book prizes.

Earlier Miss Aidoo, Mr Isaac Baidoo, Acting District Director of Education and Mr Kwasi Asare Baffour, District Police Commander took the salute at the march past of school children and voluntary organizations. The DCE read the President's anniversary message.
