Mankessim (C/R), March 28, GNA - The Assemblyman for Ahenbronmu-Anaafo electoral area of Mankessim, Mr Vincent Biney-Amissah, has appealed to teachers of Junior Secondary Schools to organise vacation classes for the final year students in the area to make up for the periods wasted whilst the teachers were engaged in the voter registration exercise. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim after a visit to some schools in his electoral area, Mr Biney-Amissah said the voter's registration exercise has greatly affected preparation of final JSS students who are expected to write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) next month.

He said immediately after the registration exercise, the schools would vacate for the Easter holidays and will reopen on April 13 for the students to start the BECE on April 19.

"Though we know the importance of the voter registration exercise to our democratic dispensation, the exercise was wrongly timed," Mr Biney-Amissah said and appealed to the Electoral Commission to take into consideration the academic calendar when planning such exercise in future. Care must be taken in order not to sacrifice our children's education for other national exercises, he said.

He urged parents to ensure that their children avail themselves for the classes when the teachers agree to organise it for them.
