Enyan Denkyira (C/R), Sept 1, GNA - The Ajumako District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the District Assembly is organising a 21-day in-service training for 60 participants under the National Youth Employment Programme's (NYEP) Community Education Teaching Assistants.

Mr Isaac Amono, District Director of Education, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that the education directorate would require the services of about 1,200 teachers for the academic year, hence the training of the 60 to support the existing staff.

He said there are 700 trained teachers at post and expects posting of newly trained teachers to augment the current staff.

Mr Amono advised the trainees to take their lessons seriously to upgrade their academic performance and prepare for higher institutions and qualify as professional teachers.

He warned against lateness to classes, adding that people who absent themselves from classes would not be considered for appointment.

Mr Andrews Dodoo, NYEP Coordinator, told the GNA that the training session was appropriate and a step in the right direction to raise the falling standards of education in the district.

Mr Dodoo was of the view that periodic re-training of pupil teachers like the ongoing session would contribute immensely to raising and upgrading the standard of education in the area.
