Techiman, (B/A), March 1, GNA - A 45-million-cedi meat house is to be constructed at the Techiman Central Market by the Techiman Butchers Association. Mallam Inusah Mahama, Techiman Chief Butcher, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the project, which had already started, was being funded by tolls the association pays as monthly revenue to the Municipal Assembly.
Mallam Mahama said, so far the association had spent over 29 million cedis to mould about 4,000 concrete blocks for the project and asked members to contribute their quota by paying up their tolls to enable them complete the project on schedule. He appealed to the assembly to extend the period of three months given to the association to one year to enable them complete the construction of the meat house, since prices of materials had gone up as a result of which the association could spend more than the amount estimated.
Mr Abdul Karim Issifu, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer commended the Butchers Association for the efforts made to put up the facility that would help promote hygienic conditions in the environment for the sale of wholesome meat to the general public. Mr Karim Issifu said the construction of the meat house would not only be useful to the association but also uplift the image of the Municipality. He called on members of the association to meet regularly to find solution to the many problems that go to affect their operations. The Secretary of the Butchers Association, Adam Mohammed asked the members to keep themselves neat by dressing decently to win more customers.
