Techiman Gyaasehene threatens to kill Evangelist

Gyaasehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Kosa Kore Topian II, has allegedly threatened to kill the founder and leader of the popular Dwankobea Bible Study and Prayer House at Techiman, Evangelist Emmanuel Owusu Fordjour. The Gyaasehene is also accused of burning two vehicles belonging to the evangelist. The matter which was reported to the Techiman police, has been transferred to Sunyani for further action.

According to sources close to both parties, the Gyaasehene who is from the Kyinamansa Royal family, informed the Kwatinako Royal family that their son who is the chief Timponim, Nana Boadi Ameyaw Gyabuni, has called from abroad that he can no longer occupy the stool. The Gyaasehene subsequently performed destoolment rites and enstooled his relative Mr. James Manu as chief of Timponim with the stool name Nana Yeboah Ameyaw.

The source continued that evangelist Owusu Fordjour who is the spokesperson for the Kwatinako royal family, smelled mischief and challenged the authenticity of the claims by the Gyaasehene. According the evangelist, even if Nana Gyabuni would relinquish his stool, he would have to inform his royal family and not the rival family.

The source said because the evangelist challenged the decision of the Gyaasehene to enstool a new chief, and took the matter to court, he became target for attack.

The source said the Gyaasehene invited evangelist Owusu Fordjour to assist in preparation for the Yam Festival celebrated last week but the evangelist refused saying he could not be part of the festival preparation when the court had not determined the true occupant of the Timponim stool. It was after evangelist Owusu Fordjur’s refusal to honour the Gyaasehene’s invitation to the palace that his vehicles were burnt. The thugs who carried out the diabolic act also attempted setting the house of the evangelist on fire.

An eye witness, Atta Anokye, a security for a Kasapa mast at Timponim, has confirmed that he was sent by the Gyaasehene to tell evangelist Owusu Fordjour that he would be dead before the yam festival. Anokye said he told the Gyaasehene that he could not deliver that message to the evangelist.

Later, Anokye’s wife called him that he should flee the town because some people from the camp of the Gyaasehene were after him.
