Begoro(E/R), March 18, GNA - Mr. Stephen Peter-Andoh, the District Director of Education for Fanteakwa, has said emphasized that teenage pregnancy should not be a barrier to candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
Speaking at the quarterly review meeting of heads of first-cycle schools in the district at Begoro on Wednesday, he asked them to permit pupils who became pregnant after they had registered for the BECE to continue to attend school until they write the examinations.
Mr Peter-Andoh observed that some unscrupulous book vendors sell unauthorized books to pupils in schools and asked head teachers not to entertain book vendors who come to do business in their schools without approval and introductory letter from the district directorate. He said the district was poised to break the myth of "African Punctuality" and urged headteachers to set the pace and be time conscious.
Mar Peter-Andoh was not happy about the way and manner some head teachers keep the attendance book in their schools, saying teachers who misuse instructional hours would be penalized.
The Deputy District Director of Education, Mr. Mike Ernest Ansah Yeboah, called for annual auditing of school accounts to instill financial discipline in schools.
The District Chairman of Headteachers Association, Mr Daniel K. Ahunu, appealed to the district directorate to organize orientation courses for newly-appointed head teachers to enable them to perform well.
