Nana Yaa Ntidwuma, Queenmother of Kurofa in the Asante-Akim North District, has expressed discomfort about the rising rate of teenage promiscuity in the area and called for concerted efforts to stop it.

She said all would have to act together – parents, teachers, churches and the traditional council, to tackle the disturbing trend of sexual adventurism resulting in pregnancies and unsafe abortions.

“It is deeply troubling to see young school girls keeping multiple sex-partners and this is something, we necessarily must do everything to discourage,” he said.

Nana Ntidwuma was speaking at a forum on unsafe abortion, held at Dampong, near Asuboa, as part of campaigns to reduce early sex among young people.

This project is being supported by the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

The Queenmother urged parents to spend quality time with their children to protect them from bad peer influence.

Constance Addae Werekoa, a Midwife at the Juansa Health Centre, described as worrying, the resort to herbs and concoctions by many teenage pregnant girl in their desperation to terminate the pregnancy, which she warned could be risky, adding that, it could lead to childlessness and fatalities.

Mrs. Werekoa, advised young people to concentrate on their books and stop gambling with their lives and future, and urged parents to live up to their responsibility, by ensuring proper upbringing of their kids through good moral and character training.
