Tema, Dec. 18, GNA - Nii Tei Adumoah II, Chief of Apollonia, on Saturday called on the Tema Community, especially the Ga/Adangmes to support the newly created Obonu FM station with rich and positive ideas to help popularise it.

He said Ga/Adangmes should appreciate the establishment of the station that uses their dialect for almost all their programmes and educate them on topical issues and should support the station financially and with ideas to ensure that the station progresses to cover a wider area. Nii Adumoah made the call at an annual get-together organised by the Obonu Fun Club for selected children in the municipality as part of activities to popularise the station.

He urged the programmers to ensure that contributors to their programmes educate the public on the Ga/Adangme's customs so that, it was not adulterated with the foreign ones, which was gradually gaining grounds among the youth.

The Chief of Apollonia asked the youth to discard the notion that the Ghanaian custom was either fetish of inferior to the foreign ones, because it was when we practise it that it would encourage others to develop the interest for its usage.

Nii Adjei Kraku II, Chief of Tema underscored the fact that local dialects in its own way contributed to the socio-economic development of the nation as far as tourism was concerned.

He, therefore, impressed on parents to orientate their children on the various customs and also teach them their rights, duties and responsibilities, so that they could contribute effectively towards the nation's development.

Mr Atta Quaye, President of the Obonu Fun Club impressed on the Ghana Education Service to ensure that, while in the Ga/Adangme area school children should be conversant with the dialect.

The children were treated to food, drinks and sweets and danced to hip-life music.
