Tema, Oct. 19, GNA - The Tema Municipal Chief Executive (TMCE), Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, has urged the leadership of the Tema branch of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to continue liaising closely with workers and management to ensure that the already prevailing industrial peace in the municipality is maintained

He said as we draw near this year's elections, it was necessary not to allow unscrupulous political office seekers to divide the front with the view of causing mischief.

"Already the political temperature is rising and you need to be on the alert for infiltrators, because we are also getting to a period where companies normally review their Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)", he added.

Mr Ashong Narh gave the advice on Tuesday at Tema, when the Tema District Council of Labour (TDCL) handed over an award it received for being the best community development to the Tema TMCE.

The TDCL was awarded the best-organised District Council of Labour in the country at the TUC quadrennial congress held in Kumasi, during which it was presented with a citation and plague.

He assured that TMA workers contribution of 8.2 million cedis towards the Security Fund established by the council would soon be released.

He commended the TDCL for the good work they have done in the municipality and assured it of the Assembly's continuous support to ensure that they carry out more of such community improvement programme. The Secretary of TDCL Mr Mohammed Baba Tairo mentioned that TDCL was the first district council to set up a fund; the Tema Workers Crime Prevention Fund, which has enabled it to venture into community development programmes without external funding.

He said previously TDCL was accorded a slot in the Assembly and appealed to Government to restore its participation as well as all District Councils of Labour in the country to ensure workers participation at that level.

The Chairman of TDCL, Mr Wilson Agana commended members for their good work and expressed the hope that, they would continue working very hard and in unity to receive more of such awards.

He expressed concern about the reportage by some media personnel, which at times create confusion in the country and warned that the TDCL will not tolerate rioting, especially during the forthcoming elections.
