Tema ECG replaces obsolete equipment at 15 million dollars

Tema, Jan. 27, GNA- The Tema Regional Directorate of the Electricity Company of Ghana is replacing its obsolete equipment at the cost of 15 million US dollars to curb the intermittent power outage experienced in the City.

Addressing a Press Conference in Tema, the Regional Director, Dr Nicholas Smart-Yeboah said the amount is generated from the company's own internally generated funds.

He said it is expected that work on the rehabilitation of the equipment would be completed in August this year to enable customers enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

He said the company has been compelled to operate with the obsolete machines, which became unpredictable. He however gave the assurance that efforts are being made to work around the clock to get the situation back to normalcy. According to him, some of the equipment have arrived and being cleared at the Tema Harbour and that soon work would commence on the rehabilitation the projects. Dr Smart-Yeboah indicated that the Company is also procuring Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, a facility used to detect major fault on time for prompt action and also monitor operations in the sub-stations

This would reduce the spate of fault occurrences and minimize outages to enhance service delivery. Earlier, the Regional Director led newsmen to inspect the equipment at the bulk supply stations at the Fishing Harbour, Industrial Area, Ashaiman and the Tema General Hospital. 27 Jan. 07
