Tema Lions Club organizes 16th Installation/Fund-raising Dinner Dance

The Tema Lions Club (TLC) has held its 16th Installation and Fund-raising Dinner Dance in Tema with a call on corporate institutions to assist philanthropic organizations whose aim is to improve the sight and prevent blindness to majority of people worldwide.

Mr. Richard Anamoo, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, who made the call, pointed out that eyesight was of paramount importance in Industries, and for that matter corporate bodies would lend their continued support to organizations like the Lions Club, to prevent what was possible, by restoring sight to those who have become partially blind.

The nine-member executive of the TLC for 2011-12 which is the 16th Installation since its formation in 1995, has Lion Castro Adjei-Sam as President, with Lions George Ninsing and Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa as First and Second Vice Presidents respectively.

The other executive members are: Lion Viclyne Richter (Leo Co-ordinator); Lion Mary Nyarko (IPP/Membership Committee Chairman); and Lion William Abakah (Secretary).

The rest are: Lion Sarah Dodoo (Treasurer); Lion Henry Boakye (Tail Twister); and Lion Kofi Dzambo (Tamer).

Mr. Anamoo who was the Guest of Honour, was optimistic that Lions would strive to make the world a better place for the under-privileged, by saving sights for millions of people.

He commended TLC for its immense and valuable contributions to restore sight to majority of Ghanaians, and hoped it would not be complacent, but would do a lot more to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.

M Robert Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive lauded the Club for its positive role in restoring eyesight to most residents in the Metropolis.

M Ofosuware disclosed that in order to motivate TLC to do more, the Assembly had released 30 plots of land towards the construction of its Park and Social Centre.

Lion Adjei-Sam. President of TLC said, the fund-raising was aimed at renovating the Tema Eye Care Centre built and handed over to the Tema General Hospital in 2009, and the construction of another important project the Park and Social Centre.

Lion Adjei-Sam said, the Centre which would comprise a 500 seating capacity conference auditorium, an ultra modern gymnasium, a library, a swimming pool, a basket ball court, a family ground with bar and meeting rooms’ would be used for recreation, education and counseling.

In a goodwill message read for her, Lion Gloria Lassey, First vice District Governor of the Lions Club, hoped the Park and Social Centre Project embarked upon by the TLC, would no doubt, bring visibility and pride to Lions in Ghana, and joy to the many young and old people who would utilize the facilities.

She urged other Lions to emulate TLC’s zeal and determination, and undertake monumental projects like the one the Tema club had embarked on.

Osongaa Nii Adjei Kraku the Second, Tema Mantse and Chairman for the occasion, pledged the Tema Traditional Council’s continued support for the programmes of the Club.

Lion Justice Senyo Dzamefe became the First President of the TLC from 1996 to 1997, with Lion Mary Nyarko as the 15th and the immediate past President (2010-110).
