Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the French Government for the support it had given to Tema over the years.

Nii Kraku said Tema had always had cordial relations with France and this was manifested some years ago when the French Government released money for the construction of the Ashaiman overhead bridge and some roads in Tema Manhean, notably, the Tema Manhean/Harbour road.

He said this when Lieutenant Gwenegan Le Bourhis, Commander of the French Navy Ship, “Commandant L’Herminier,” paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Tema Manhean.

The ship docked at Berth 10 at the Tema Port on Monday for a four-day visit.

He said Ghanaians also appreciated the support of the French Navy in collaborating with their counterparts in Ghana to safeguard the country’s coast.

On behalf of the Tema Traditional Council, the Tema Mantse presented to the Commander, a miniature stool with the symbol of Tema.

Lt Le Bourhis told him that they were in the country as part of his outfit’s mission to permanently protect the Gulf of Guinea against piracy, drug trafficking and smuggling, among other crimes perpetrated on the sea.

The crew also visited the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) where they presented a symbol of the Ship to the Assembly.
