Tema Mantse expresses concern about Manhean BECE results

Tema Manhean, March 15, GNA -- The Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku the second, has expressed concern about the poor performance of final year students of the Junior High Schools (JHS) in Tema Manhean in the last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. He noted that BECE results of students in general in Tema Manhean were appalling and called on the teachers to put in their utmost best to assist them excel in the examination as the continued poor performance impacts negatively on the image of the town. To address the issue, Nii Kraku expressed the willingness to visit all schools in the town to assess the situation with a view to finding solution to the problem.

The Mantse expressed the concern when the management of the Tema branch office of the Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo Mobile phones presented 500 pieces of mathematical sets to the Saint Peter's Roman Catholic and Saint Mary's Anglican JHS on Saturday at Tema Manhean. He received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools. While urging students of the fishing community to eschew negative practices and rather be serious with their books, Nii Kraku equally entreated parents and guardians to institute strict supervision over their children and wards to ensure that they studied hard at home to complement the efforts of the teachers.

He asked the students to show seriousness during the formal academic classes to excel in the examination once rather than concentrating on attending remedial classes to write a second paper as that was not only time consuming but financial drain on parents and guardians. Presenting the mathematical sets, Mr. Mario Nartey, Managing Director of the Tema Tigo office said the company has since November last year supported a number of schools in Tema Metropolis and the Dangme West District with a total of 4,000 pieces of the math's sets as part of its social responsibilities.

Beneficiary towns include Tema, Ashaiman, Kpone, Dawhenya, Afienya and Sege, he said, hoping to cover more areas as according to him education of the youth was dear to the heart of the company. Mrs Anasthasia Donkor, headmistress of the Roman Catholic JHS promised to ensure that the students use the sets profitably.
