SheDreams Africa, a non-for-profit organisation has collaborated with the Girls' Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Tema West Municipality, to donate pieces of face masks to local children.

The donation, which was targeted at over 1000 children, mostly girls, witnessed the random distribution of pieces of non-medical fabric mask to children who were without mask and yet loitered about the Baatsona Texpo market and Baatsona Slum.

The team also educated the children, most of whom were seemingly uninformed, about the Covid-19 pandemic, before handing them the item.

The first set of face mask was provided by the Ghana Disability Forum with additional support from Ms Audrey Esi Swatson, Ghana’s youngest commercial female pilot.

Miss Yacoba Otoo, Girls' Education Coordinator, GES, Tema West Municipality, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, during a routine monitoring exercise after the lockdown, she observed dozens of learners and some adults moving around the market area without nose mask as mandated.

Children, she said “are the future generation and ought to be protected and given the needed care to safeguard their future.”

She, therefore, admonished parents to as much as possible keep their wards at home to avoid going to crowd places like the market where they were more likely to come into close contact with a Covid-19 infected person.

Theresa Anafi, Cofounder of SheDreams Africa, said the first phase of the presentation saw the distribution of 500 pieces of face mask to children, largely girls.

SheDreams Africa is a non-for-profit organisation led by young women who provide opportunities for young Africans - especially girls, to achieve their dreams through entrepreneurship, mentorship, outreach, empowerment, networking, advocacy and support.
