Kumasi, July 17, GNA- Most Reverend Gabriel Yaw Anokye, Auxiliary Bishop of the Kumasi Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, has said that priesthood is a challenging profession, which demands sacrificial and dedicated services at all times.
He has therefore called on aspiring priests to be honest, truthful and tactful in the discharge of their functions.
Most Rev Anokye was preaching at the ordination of 10 priests of the Catholic Church in Kumasi on Saturday.
He expressed concern about the increasing crime wave and immorality such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and other social vices in the country and called for concerted efforts to fight the vices. Most Rev Anokye asked priests to work hard and proclaim the gospel to help win more souls for Christ.
The Bishop said society looks to them as agents of change and advised them to live exemplary lives.
Most Rev Anokye said there was the likelihood that they would encounter some difficulties in their work and therefore asked them to be steadfast in their daily lives.
Most Rev Peter Akwasi Sarpong, the Metropolitan Archbishop, who performed the ordination, charged the priests to live decent and disciplined lives.
Lieutenant-Colonel George Biah Abban, Commanding Officer of the Fourth Battalion of Infantry, Kumasi, congratulated them for their pleasant fruitful and fulfilling career.
He urged them not to lord themselves on the people they are to serve but to co-operate with them to ensure the development and growth of the church.
The ordained priests are Rev Father Ebenezer Justice Owusu-Sekyere, Rev Father Stephen Owusu-Sekyere, Rev Father Andrew Owusu-Ansah, Rev Father George Gyasi-Adjei, Rev Father Joseph Asante and Rev Father Jude Anin-Agyei.
