The incident led to a heated exchange between the terminal's management and the NDC youth
Tension erupted at the Sofoline Bus Terminal in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, after suspected activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempted to forcibly take over the facility.
The incident sparked a heated confrontation between the terminal’s management and the NDC youth, who claimed that their party’s recent electoral victory justified their actions.
Calm was restored after the Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Assibey, swiftly intervened. A team led by the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Captain Jabire, later arrived at the scene to prevent further escalation.
Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Patrick Boamah, condemned the takeover attempt as illegal and urged security agencies to launch investigations. Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim, he stressed that the management of the terminal would do everything possible to protect their jobs, describing the actions of the youth as “unacceptable.”
Both parties have since been invited by the police for an amicable settlement as authorities work to resolve the matter peacefully.
The incident underscores the importance of calm and respectful dialogue in addressing disputes, particularly in sensitive public spaces such as transportation hubs.
