Tepa NMTS Principal receives Excellence Award

Miss Victoria Amoah, Principal of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training School (TNMTS), has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree for her professional excellence and achievements.

The Award, ‘Honorary Woman of the Moment,’ was conferred on her by the Peristrofi World International Awards Council (PWHIAC), at an impressive congregation ceremony held at the Business School Auditorium of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi.

Miss Amoah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that she achieved the award on the basis of discipline, selflessness, commitment and devotion to duty in her chosen profession.

Similar award had previously been given to Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana, for her leadership abilities, contributions and achievements towards the cause of women in the country.

The occasion on the theme: “Breaking Economic Barriers, ” also conferred honorary doctorate degrees on five other personalities, for their socio-economic achievements that had contributed to national development.

They included Nana Akwasi Prempeh, Manhyiahene of the Kumasi Traditional Council, Mr. Ernest Ofori Sapong, a business executive and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Special Ice Mineral Water and Reverend Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach (WMO).

The two others were Messrs Agyaba Kwame Afriyie and Thomas Kofi Aboagye Dompem, CEOs of Agyaba Jewellery and Obibini Blackman Company Limited respectively, in Kumasi.

Miss Amoah, a registered general nurse/midwife dedicated the award to girl-children and young girls in the country, particularly those in the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions as a morale booster for them to strive for the best academically, professionally and vocationally.

She advised nursing /midwifery students to see the profession as vocation, stating that coupled with empathy and sympathy for patients, they would always derive the necessary job satisfaction and “all other rewards like financial remunerations by employers and recognition for good works by the society will naturally follow.”

Miss Amoah, a Nurse Educator and Fellow of West African College of Nursing (FWACN) holds Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree in Population and Reproductive Health from KNUST.

She had earlier obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Nursing Studies, from the University of Manchester, Royal College of Nursing in the United Kingdom.

The Tepa NMTS Principal has also studied for Diploma in Nursing/Administration, as well as Diploma in Education from the Universities of Ghana and University of Education, Winneba respectively.

Miss Amoah headed the Midwifery Faculty of the Berekum Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Brong-Ahafo Region for about 10 years before she co-ordinated the establishment of the Tepa Health Assistants Training School, that has metamorphosed into NMTS through her instrumentality.

Dr Divine Gabriel Brefo, first Chancellor of PWHIA in Ghana said during the occasion, adding that it is “one of the respected prices in the world conferred on self-made personalities with distinction in areas of their endeavour.”
