Kumasi, Nov 12, GNA- Students in tertiary institutions should plan and manage their time judiciously to enhance their education and career development, Mr Ebenezer Sekyere, former headmaster of Prempeh College, has said.
He urged them to avoid over-indulgence in merry-making and other social events on campus since that could derail their focus and the effective pursuit of their academic agenda. Mr Sekyere was addressing a congress of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Old Students Association of Prempeh College and Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School in Kumasi at the weekend.
He reminded students to view tertiary education as a worthy investment and the cornerstone of the nation's development agenda and that "it was imperative that they worked hard to justify the investment being made in them".
"What I expect of our students is that they maintain a high sense of self-discipline, self-control and also research to broaden their knowledge base to enable them to become worthy leaders in future", he stated.
Mr Kwame Ofori-Kuragu, lecturer at the Department of Building Technology of the KNUST, observed that the greatest resource of the nation was the youth, stressing that, in view of this, stakeholders should resolve to create an enabling environment for their development. The youth, he said, should also not misuse their God-given talents and youthful exuberance, but always pursue activities that tend to boost national development.
Mrs Elizabeth Malik, Headmistress of Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School, appealed to old students of the school to always comport themselves wherever they are since discipline was the hallmark of the school.
