The Presidency Is Only One Term

On a night distinguished which saw enormous restraint by the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the face of Hassan Ayariga's infamous cough, H.E President Mahama stated that the Constitution of Ghana gives every President two terms.

That is not the case. Article 66 makes it clear that a president holds office for a four year term but can serve a second term subject to re-election.

It is because it is not automatic but subject to elections that expensive elections are held every four years to let the people decide.

The decision, this year,, will focus on the generational change through education agenda of the NPP as clearly stated by Nana Akufo-Addo, compared to the visionless, corruption laden four years witnessed under the NDC.

Given another chance to come clean on corruption, the President said the deliberate conspiracy to steal money through fraudulent settlement and judgment debts was a mere slip and blamed the NPP for abrogating contracts. Which contracts? Africa Automobile Limited’s Gallopers, Isofoton, Waterville or Woyome?

Ghanaians will reject corruption as evidenced by the concurrent polling on the night which put Nana ahead in the voters’ affection for the clarity and strength of his message.
