The Royal Bank (TRB), through its foundation has in two days commissioned and handed over twelve borehole facilities to the people of Volta and Central regions.
The communities are Bukarikope, Zorkope, Abortia, Ative Dome and Kudzagbagbakope all in North Tongu and Ketu North District in the Volta region.
The central region communities which benefitted from the water project includes, Yaw Gadzi, Duabone, Kwadiegya, Mbem, Abakrampa SHS, Aburaman SHS and Cape Coast school for the Deaf also in Agona East, Abura Asebu Kwamankese districts and Cape Coast Municipal.
The move forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to construct 60 boreholes in deprived communities across the country every year. This is the third phase of the projects after the bank commissioned similar projects in Greater Accra and in the Eastern region.
Mr Faustell Cofie, the Chairman of The Royal Bank Foundation, told Journalists in a media tour that, communities were selected on the basis of a demonstrable need for potable drinking water and tracking of various media reports.
“Water problem is the heartbeat of people and since it affects a large number of people when you go to deprived communities without water, we in Royal Bank, we are trying to make a difference in the lives of people by providing potable drinking water to as many people as we can across the country without discrimination", he said.
Mr Cofie added that the founder of the bank is passionate about alleviating the plight of the suffering people and deprived communities especially those who do not have access to basic needs such as potable water and schools.
On his part, the Head of Strategic Planning, Research and Corporate Affairs, Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh mentioned that his outfit has made a commitment of providing potable water at any cost to the benefit of deprived and farming communities and will not place emphasis on any amount it may cost the bank.
“What makes us happy is making sure potable water flows and putting smiles on the faces of these deprived communities, there is no value you can place on one life lost.
If we can provide potable water to communities making sure one more child does not get infected with diseases by drinking contaminated water, the bank will just do that without looking at the cost,” Dr Baah-Nuakoh said in an interview.
He also tasked the media to spend a lot more time on rural reporting by providing direction to organizations to channel their CSR budget to uplift deprived communities from poverty.
In all, the Royal Bank Foundation has provided 22 borehole facilities out of the targeted 60 this year in Greater Accra, Eastern Volta and Central Regions. The bank is expected to carry out similar projects in the Ashanti and Western region in few months.

The Bank started operations in Ghana on the 10th of December 2012 and currently has 22 branches at strategic locations across the country within the two years of its operations, and hopes to increase the number by the end of 2015.
