The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) on Tuesday said the late President John Evans Atta Mills exemplified the new African leadership of simplicity, humility, tolerance and abiding faith in the African.

In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra signed by Mr. Atukwei Okai, PAWA President, said the association was shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of the late President Mills.

"The news has shocked and saddened us because the late President Mills presided over a country dear to the heart of people of Africa as well as the country that has been hosting the PAWA with familial warmth and proud Africa solidarity."

“It is against such a background that we offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, as well as the Government and people of Ghana...in the same breath may we take the opportunity to welcome “President John Dramani Mahama on his assumption to the high and challenging office,” the statement stated.

PAWA also noted that President Mahama’s political career so far stood him in good stead to offer Ghanaians and Africans a worthy and inspiring leadership.

It assured President Mahama of its continuous contribution and cooperation with the Government and people of Ghana during the period of bereavement and afterwards.**
