Mamfe-Akuapem, March 28, GNA - The Chief of Mamfe-Akuapem, Nana Ansah Sasraku the III, has called on citizens of the town to contribute their quota towards the accelerated socio-economic development of the area.

He noted with concern that although many citizens of the town occupied positions of authority, their impact was not been felt in the development of the community.

Nana Sasraku, who is also the Kyidomhene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, was addressing maiden Home Coming Congress of Mamfe citizens on Sunday.

The chiefs and people would spend the next three days to discuss how to promote education, the environment, investment, generate employment and arrest moral degeneration in the community. Nana Sasraku called for collaborated efforts to promote the development agenda of the community.

Mr Mike Gizo, a former Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku and Minister of State, asked the people to forget about their petty differences and rally behind the chief to facilitate the tapping of the human and natural potentials of the town for development.

The congress recommended the need for a byelaw to prohibit students to roam after 2000 hours, codification and modernisation of cultural practices, and the demarcation and registration of traditional lands. Establishment of a social centre, crafts village and tourist sites were also recommended.
