The people of Tatale appeal for separate district

Tatale (N/R), April 16, GNA - The chiefs and people of Tatale in the Zabzugu/Tatale District of Northern Region have appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills for the creation of a separate district to accelerate the development of the area, which is one of the most deprived in the region. They stated that not only was the traditional area vast, but that its elevation to a district status would also facilitate the decentralization process, leading to fair distribution of resources to improve on the fortunes of the people.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Tatale, the Paramount Chief of

Basare Traditional Area, Obore Gariba Yankosor, stated that the enormous existence of natural and human resources in the area were enough to prove that the development process of the area would be sustained. Obore Gariba indicated that, specifically the vast arable land, the

iron ore deposit at Sheini for potential minerals mining gravel and stone for construction purposes, among others. He further stated that the area already had functioning seven large

markets centres to provide daily revenue to the proposed district assembly for development, three area councils, one Senior High School, a police station in Tatale town.

The others are CEPS and Immigration posts at the boarder, five health centres and electricity to promote cottage industries. The chief also announced that his outfit had already made available over 80 acres of land for the construction of offices and staff accommodation for the new district if their request was granted.

He said temporary offices and staff accommodation would be provided free of charge if approval is given for the creation of the district. Obore Gariba stated that the people of the area are very peaceful people, who are ready to cooperate and dialogue with the government and development partners to support their worthy course if elevated to a district status. He appealed to the government to complete the work on the Tatale township road, which was awarded on contract by the previous government by tarring it. He stated that gutters and culverts have been constructed and the road now needs gravelling and tarring.

Obore Gariba commended President Mills for assuring Ghanaians that he will continue with some of the good policies of the previous government. He indicated that if the Tatale township roads were not tarred immediately the erosion would continue to destroy the good work the contractor, GHANEM has done.
